Shedding time?

How do I know when my baby royal python is about to shed. He seems to be getting these small dry patches on his body, but his eyes aren't cloudy like i was told wouldhappen. He also ate yesterday and i was told that they will sometimes not eat when they are close to shed.

Please let me know, and give me links to more information.

Hello; while your snake could be going into shed, the dry patches could mean several things. A couple of the most common ones are that your humidity could be too low, or if the dry spots are only in a certain area; there could be something abrasive in his terrarium he is rubbing against that is causing a bit of scale irritation. Wood hides in my experience can be a leading cause of the latter.

If you suspect shedding to be the culprit; some of the visual and behavior indicators to look out for are a slightly dehydrated appearance, milky colored eyes, grayed-out scales, a pink belly (not always apparent in every snake for every shed), sudden aggression or aversion to being handled, and the snake refusing food, though some snakes will eat right through their shedding cycle.

Here is a website that gives very detailed information on all the signs to look for, what all is going on, common problems associated with snakes shedding, and what to do about it should said problems occur:

If you do think that your snake is about to shed; it is a great time to up cage humidity (mist the cage one to three times daily), and make sure there are sterilized cage accessories for it to rub against in order to aid your Royal python in having an easy shed. :)

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions at all on the subject; please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to assist you.

    Good luck!

I do not possess a shed, however in which I paintings I spend some of the day in a single. No, I do not love the shed, despite the fact that I will admit I'm instead keen on it. I have pimped my shed with an ipod, technics audio system and an amplifier. I'm going to get a soda movement for it. Alfonso poofarty like to get busy wi' t' fizzy!
