    Backspin comes from many things.

The green for starters...My golf course has hard greens and you can not spin a ball back. For this reason I have never spun a ball at my course, only in winter once.

I am a better golfer now, so maybe in winter I will be able to stop it dead with spin.

Another thing is the club. If you are using a 9iron from 50yards, you will find it harder to spin the ball over a Sand Iron.

The ball....if you are using something like a Dunlop, or anything hard for distance then you are going to find it harder to spin a ball over a soft one such as ProV1, Callaway HX Red/Blue.

I left this one to last and I will keep it as short as I can...ball striking...

You need to hit down on the ball, and take a divot AFTER the shot. I tend to sweep alittle and can't spin the ball asmuch because I find hitting down on the ball hard (I have a flat swing)

Don't slow down when your strike the ball.

I don't think you need to worry about spin. Check the ball earlier than what you are doing and you will be fine.

You would rip your hair out at my place because you can't hold a ball on the green that well. On par 3s you need to bounce them short at my course.

So if your course plays like that you don't need to worry

    1. Solid contact

    2. New technology (such as zip grooves from Cleveland Golf, Spin Milled Wedges from Titleist (Bob Vokey), or mac daddy grooves from Callaway

    3. Accelerating thru the shot

    4. Keep the face slightly open thru impact. Watch the big boys on tour. They rotate their bodies thru the shot without releasing the clubhead. Generally the clubhead will close and be in a 'toe up' position once the club is waist high after impact. This is good for your standard full shot, but with these 3/4 and 1/2 shots, it's important to keep the clubface slightly open thru impact. Ball position will vary depending on the type of shot required.

Place the ball in the back of your stance and hit down on the back of it. This creates the spin. Use a high spin ball(Nike One Platinum or Black, Pro V1X, Bridgestone B330) and a nice wedge, Titleist Vokey or Cleveland CG14.

Remember the exact opposite of what a mediocre golfer would think: *Hit down on the ball and make your divot in front of the ball. DO NOT SWEEP AT THE BALL.
