I am going to buy a 1969 chevelle malibu 307 what questions should I ask the dealer?

I am buying from my brother in law so I can trust him and have known him for a while. I have checked it out physically and there is little to no rust, straight body, good interior, and it runs. I have yet to test drive it but he is asking me what I want to spend on it he is willing to give me a deal below the car's value. What price should I give him and what other questions should I be asking? Also the engine looks rebuilt, and this will be my first classic car purchase, the engine does not have a 307 on it so is it possible its a bigger engine? How would I find out? Thanks

To find out the engine size you would have to get the block number and look it up. If it's all original, it would be a great find and I wouldn't change the engine out, but the 307 is a bit underpowered for a heavy car, I had a 70 chevelle with a 350 in it that wasn't original, I swapped it out for the 427 instead for the added torque. Price is hard to tell with out seeing it.
