would you go to the ER or wait until Monday?

My almost 4 month old has all the symptoms of an ear infection. (batting at his ears, worse fussing at night, doesnt want to lay flat, and fussy. his nose is congested too.) His drs office was booked today and I couldnt get him in. Should I wait until monday or bring him to the hospital? What would you do?

Update:

It was an ear infection. I went. He has been teething since birth (got his first tooth at 9 weeks) so I knew it was something else.

I wouldn't bother going to the doctor for an ear infection. The most recent studies are showing that antibiotics don't have any benefit for ear infections - they don't reduce the duration of the infection at all compared with doing nothing. http://www.hpakids.org/holistic-health/articles/16... Ear infections hurt like hell but they aren't worth sitting in an ER waiting room for several hours, paying a huge bill (ER copays are usually at least $200 with GOOD insurance) and being surrounded by people who could really get your child sick with something worse.

There are natural eardrops you can get at health food stores that some people swear by. A hair dryer on the warm setting (not too hot) also helps with the pain, so does tylenol. Pain control is really the most important thing.

If you really want to take your child to the doctor still, do a walk-in urgent care clinic instead. They're all over the place and most have Saturday hours. Not only will you be seen faster than the ER, but insurance usually sees it as a regular doctor visit so it's not nearly as expensive.

It could also be a sign of teething. Teething and Earaches commonly have the same symptoms.

However, to be on the safe side, If I were you, I would go ahead and take him to get him checked out. Because, if his ear is really bothering him it could get worse without getting medical attention.

same thing happened to me when with my son and we were out of town visiting family but i went with my gut against what others said o just wait till you get home anyway went to the er and yep 3.5 months old double ear infections and while we were waiting I started to see green discharge from his eyes caused by the infection. he ended up with eye drops and augmentum.. I would go

I would call the pediatrician, explain the symptoms and find out if they think that the baby should be seen over the weekend or on Monday.

If his symptoms are limited to what you are describing here, it would probably not warrant a trip to the ER. However, if he is in extreme pain, inconsolable, running a high fever, etc. then I probably would take him to the E.R.

If it was me I would take him to the ER today. Ear infections can get a lot worse and I wouldn't want to wait that long before getting him on antibiotics.

Just go to the ER. Ear infections are pretty painful. It would be wise to start anti-biotic now so the infection can start to clear up. Be sure to pick up some Motrin or Tylenol too!

I would take him just in case so that over the weekend it does not get out of hand if it is his ears. It never hurts to just have them checked out.

Better safe than sorry - And more sleep to. LOL
