Question about roundworms?

My cat vomited up 4 roundworms. The vet said to get a stool sample and bring it in. However, I have two cats (yes, I'm going to bring the second cat as well), so I can't just take a stool sample from the litter box because I don't know which one is from which cat.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how to go about this? I never catch them in their litter box, and everytime I do, they're just peeing.

Also, even though I'm going to ask the vet first I'd like to know your guys' experiences. Is it really necessary to actually bring the cats in, or just the stool samples? If it is necessary, why? What is the typical visit like?

Thanks!

Roundworms are very common in cats and luckily very easy to treat.

It would not matter if you took a stool sample from the litter box, both cats will need to be treated since they share the same box. Eggs are passed in the stool (which is what the vet will be checking for). The cats can pickup these microscopic eggs on their feet and fur and as they groom themselves, re-ingest the eggs and keep the cycle going. The link below has more information about roundworms and shows a diagram of the cycle.

Since you have seen the evidence of the roundworms, your vet probably wants to check for any other internal parasites.

I have treated roundworms many times, with the rescue I volunteer with and my own when they were kittens. Kittens will have roundworms if the mother did and they are passed as the kittens nurse.

No, it is not necessary to take your cats unless there is another issue with them that the vet would need to see them..such as if their vaccinations are due.

    Purrs to you and kitties.

Ask the vet for a prescription for the dewormer and don't go in with the stool sample. It's called droncit/drontal. It works like a charm for any kind of worm! I bought mine without a prescription onine from a greek pharmacy (they have a dr onsite that writes a prescription.) $36 for 12. I gave them half each in their dry food and I haven't seen a single worm since.
