Can Adobe After Effects CS5/any other versions be bought alone in box format?

Hi there,

I've been using a (what I think of as being like) 'training wheels'-style video editing program with Adobe Premiere Elements 8 and I now feel like there's not a heck of alot more I can learn using this program and it's now time to upgrade to something more highly regarded.

I've been checking out both Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects on Youtube channels to see if they're any good and they both appear to eat what I'm using for breakfast (ie they both look fantastic).

I'm personally more drawn to After Effects (it just came across as cooler).

Here's the problem : I've looked in local computing stores and all they appear to have is the entire Creative Suite versiob 5.5 (think is the current release, and I think CS6 is soon to be released here) and Adobe After Effects appears only able to be purchased either through buying the ENTIRE range of Adobe products (about 5 of in one box coming to several thousand dollars of this country's currency) OR through an online download.

I don't want to buy 5 products with the intention of only using one (the others look great but I don't really want them) and I dislike the idea of downloading very expensive (and huge - hard drive spacewise) design software which I'd (presumably) have to keep on my PC where it could be erased if a virus ever struck.

All I want is ANY version of Adobe After Effects CSanything in boxed format which can be used in New Zealand or Australia (because the dvd formats are the same in these two countries).

Can this product be purchased in box format (ie a box with the software inside it) containing only Adobe After Effects? If so, do you know any online site which sells such a product and can ship it in the correct disk format to Australasia?

    Ok, first things first. CS6 has been out for a couple of months. And you can buy the stand alone version of After Effects. It costs around $800 USD

    Now, for the more important part of your question. You say that you've checked out Premiere Pro and After Effects, and you say you are more drawn to After Effects.

    It's important to realize that Premiere Pro and After Effects are two completely different programs that are intended to do two completely different things.

    Premiere Pro is a video editing program. It is designed to take several video clips, and put them in sequence, and add transitions between the clips. It will also do some basic titles and basic color correction.

    After Effects is a video compositing program. It is designed to take multiple video clips and combine them into a single clip. For example, you might take a clip of a person firing a prop gun, and layer a clip of a muzzle flash on top of it.

    If you are a student, check out the Adobe Education Store. I recently purchased the Creative Suite Production Premium Version (which includes Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and others) for $450 USD.

    First, you don't need to buy either if you don't want; you can subscribe to one or both programs for a lot less per year than it would cost to buy them. But if you want you can buy them individually as DVD sets, though you're better off buying them from the Adobe Store as downloads. You can get DVD backup sets for about $20 US if you do it that way, and you really want a hard copy. Anything you buy on the Adobe Store as a download stays in your account as long as your account is active. I've got stuff going back years I bought originally as downloads. Even if it's wiped off your system, you can re-download from your account.

    Second, buying or subscribing shouldn't be your first concern - your computer hardware should be. Premiere Elements will run on just about anything, but Premiere Pro and After Effects (especially CS6) require high performance or gaming level systems and GPU's to run and render. You need to be sure that your system is even capable of running them first before considering buying or subscribing. If you're even mildly concerned about drive space with these programs, I'm guessing your system isn't even close.

    System Requirements Links - pay particular attention to the GPU's, and figure at least double or triple the RAM for optimum performance. The minimum requirements means just that; you'll be able to start it up, but that's about it.

    after effect is prety awesome , but before buying it make sure that you have the requirments .....
