Lowering blood cholesterol?

I have been diagnosed with hereditary high blood cholesterol.I already consume minimum meat and dairy products, eat fruit and vegetables every day, drink at least 2L of water daily, don't have sugar and have lowered my carb and fat intake. My weight has dropped to a healthy 70kg over the last few years and I am an active 59yo exercising regularly every day. I take many vitamins and anti-oxidants but still my cholesterol is higher than normal. Is there anything else that I can do other than taking another pill? My brother had a massive heart attack last year and my mother was taking heart pills all her life.Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you are doing all you can to keep your blood lipids to a min. But; your genetics means that your body is actually making excess cholesterol and nothing you do can change that. Yes this means that you must slow down your liver and the only way to do this is with statin drugs. It sounds like crestor, the most powerful, might be the right one for you. Also you must watch your triglyceride levels as well. This is an independant risk factor for heart disease. With your family history it would be a really good idea to visit with a cardiologist and get on a real program before you suffer a heart attack.
