Is it safe to fly to Arizona or New Mexico right now?

Ive been wanting to go to Arizona for a couple of yrs now and I now have finally the time and money. But then the pandemic happened. i know AZ is currently a hot spot, but so is where I live, California. Do you think it would be safe for my 12 yo daughter and I to go to az, on a plane, if we wear masks social distance from others on our trip? it would just be for a couple of days.

would New Mexico be more safe or either one is bad or fine you think as long as we follow protocols?

It's not really safe to go anywhere else in the US at the moment; strongly recommend NOT flying either.

No.  A mask protects others from you.  It does not protect you from others.  If you wear masks and others don't, your risk is as great as if you didn't either.

It's not especially safe or wise to travel anywhere right now unless you absolutely have to.  Your chances of being exposed in a hot spot area are increased.  Safety protocols certainly decrease your risk, but don't eliminate it.  Flying is not a great idea either - you are sitting in a relatively small enclosed space with recirculated air; that's quite different from what happens when most people go to work or a grocery store (in response to one of your comments).  I think you just want to hear someone tell you to go.  I'm sure nothing here is going to stop you from going.  But it's not a good idea, and it's safer to stay home.

I believe New Mexico is requiring a 14-day quarantine of all visitors, and they are enforcing it.  Arizona does not have any such restrictions in place right now. Also be aware that many of the things you'd want to see and do may not be available to you right now due to COVID closures and restrictions.

The outbreak in the Navajo nation centered around Gallop NM is the only place that is extremely dangerous.  A tourist area like Carlsbad is still safe.

It's not safe to fly, and getting off the plane in EITHER of those places is suicide!
