If you buy a small 2 bedroom house in Fairfax, Virginia your mortgage and utilities, per week will be approximately $485.00 per week if you keep your thermostat set at 66 degrees all winter and 74 degrees all summer.

If you divide that $485.00 in two you have the cost for each person.

If you are the owner you take the yearly mortgage interest deduction and do not mention that to your tenant. (the mortgage interest deduction almost makes it like you are living 'rent free' for the first 2-5 years ...as you are getting what you paid in interest back as a deduction.)
