Ms Black America. BET. What would happen if there was a White Ms America, or WET?

Ms. America is NOT white. There have been some that weren't white. It's because the black population feels we owe them everything because they had some ancestors that were enslaved. I agree with you a hundred percent, double standards are NOT ok.

The United N.egro College Fund (a private organization) was set up to deal with ineqaulities in college funding for black students, but it is open to any student who wishes to attend a historical black college, and sometimes non-historical black colleges. You disagree, apply and see for yourself. The name says United N.egro College Fund, but it clearly accepts and awards other ethnicity's as well.

The Miss America pageant started in 1921, and can you believe that it was a rule that the contestants had to complete a biological questionaire tracing their heritage to make sure there was no black in it? They did not allow black women to participate until the 1970's...all the while, the name was never Miss "White" America, but the rules made it clear they didn't want anyone but white women. A black woman was not crowned until 1984, that is 63 years after it started.

You can take BET anyway you want, but it is targeted towards a young, urban audience. It was founded in 1980 when it became clear that MTV was not targeting this type of audience. Same as CMT. Although they do show all types of music from all types of people. I don't have a problem with BET, not a lot of channels are black owned. No one ever seems to have a problem when blacks own nothing and non blacks own mostly everything.

It's all cause and effect. If things were indeed equal from the start, we wouldn't be having this discussion. It's also not a question of "IF" white people did this it's "BECAUSE" white people have done this. I am surprised you never researched the history of this country, if you have any type of rationale you should see this......no?

In case you haven't noticed all the winners of Ms America have been blonde white women. What's so bad about black women having something. Plus its just a stupid beauty pagent.

Also BET is just a channel aimed at a specific demographic. It's no different then a channel being marketed towards women or rednecks(ex. Larry the Cable Guy or Country stations)

Also with the college fund its has been proven countless times that black people normally make much less money that white people. Children of Alumni are also favored in college application but nobody says anything about them.

Until the 70's, the Miss America pageant WAS all-white. There was no black, or otherwise ethnic television programming until the mid-60's, nor were there any large non-white educational scholarships.

When the Miss America pageant first integrated, there WAS public outrage, death threats, and more. Same with the start of the Miss Black America pageant. Same thing happened when black people started trying to go to college.

In the history of the intire Miss America pageant, how many white Miss America's have there been versus black Miss America's? How many television and cable stations have there been with all-white programming since the history of television versus the one BET (which is white-owned)? How many thousands of scholarship programs are there that have exclusively awarded scholarships to white students, but don't happen to have the word "white" in their names?

Why are you so pissed off that black people just happen to have a tiny handful of things to call our own?

i'd laugh at the WET idea, and all white ms. america, id be thinking what has tv come up with now.

i dont see it as unfair how it is. we have to include all to an extent. being America, the land of the free, we're kinda obligated to share.

im sure people who are white in Russia understand the country ins't going to change completely, cuz theres some white people there. there will still be more russian music, tv, cultures,food,clothes,ect.....thats a given. but they should allow a show from America to aire to they can at least have something to watch.

bet and ms black america are not all black. Ms Black America allows white participants and BET has had white, hispanic, and asians. As for white only college funds there aren't any but there college funds for specific ethnicities of the white race. Black people don't get "ethnic" scholarships(for example a Nigerian scholarship) because we can't trace our ethnicities

There's no need for a White Ms America because White beauty is already glorified. It's nothing personal...I still can't understand why people who are part of 'the majority' get extra pissy over what minorities try to encourage.

I disagree. I don't feel like non-Blacks owe me anything. If there's a problem then what's the point of complaining when you are only going to accuse of being overly sensitive, etc. We created the solution and now you guys want to cry over a pageant and TV show.

things like BET and Historical black colleges were created because blacks were not represented on television and nor were blacks allowed to be in the same school as white people,IF they even let them in!

why the F do you care anyways? does it hurt your little feelings? well think about all the hurt feelings of the black people who got turned down for modeling jobs,commercials,colleges,ms americas,etc... because they were black and dont say it doesnt happen because it does!

its not about thinking anyone owes anything. we gotta be proactive. have some compassion and be real. Discrimination is still here!

The thinking is that since whites are already the majority, we're not entitled to have things to ourselves. Also, many will say that all other TV besides BET is white TV, and Miss America is already Miss White America. All history is already white history so ALL months are White History Month...etc.

with the economy pinwheeling off a cliff, I think maybe there are bigger things to worry about than who gets what stupid beauty pageant or tv network. plenty of white students get into better colleges with less academic merits and backed by a better quality education. its facts.
