Motorists take no prisoners so ALWAYS have your wits about you ... until you know your way around avoid driving yourself & use public transport.

Apart from that , it's a big city with a beautiful harbour & nice foreshore ...the walk from Bondi to Coogee along the foreshore is a MUST ! Simply Breathtaking ....as is the ferry ride across the harbour to Manly.

The closest sort of place in NZ would be Auckland . but Sydney is much bigger with better weather amazing beaches. Go out to Bondi , Sydney has one of the most beautiful harbours in the World. There will be plenty of tourists in Sydney and people from all walks of life. China Town is a great place for cheap meals.

It's very expensive, and becomes more expensive the nearer you get to the CBD. New Year's Eve in Sydney Harbour is almost impossible. There are thousands, and thousands of people there. If you want to see the fireworks, try to see them from the North Shore, or some high vantage point.

if your in the centre of sydney, go public transport, there are buses and trains and a few trams that run frequently. make sure you go to darling harbour, got to the centrepoint tower (and if you like shopping the westfield there) itll be summer (though it doesnt seem like it now) pack singlets etc, its very multicultural, china town is busy, but alright to eat at. sydney is huge, youll need to go to a tour place (there are a few around central train station) to see whats best for you.
