Does either one surprise you?

I'm a security guard.  I have had to many times go up to people sleeping on our property and ask them to leave.  The first time I did it my heart was racing (I was scared).  Last time I did it, my heart wasn't racing.

Similarly, my cousin is a firefighter and the first time she went into a burning building, her legs were shaking (she was scared).  Last time she did it (done it several times by now) her legs don't shake

Does either one surprise you?

    No.

It is normal to be apprehensive when facing a new and potentially dangerous situation and for this to fade over time.

First day of school or learning to drive can cause similar reactions
