  • My 11 year old son swears/uses profanity, is that bad?

My son is 11 almost 12. He's a decent kid overall, but he's developed quite a potty mouth. It's just in general conversation or at times when playing video games.  I've heard him greet a couple of his friends with " hey mother *******!"  or " what the ****?, if he's trying to figure something.  He mostly uses The F word.  He doesn't talk this way in front of family or teachers.  Should i just let it go or make a big deal about it?

  • My son is almost 30 but doesn't take his career seriously. How do I get him to become more ambitous?

My son and I work at the same company. It's his first and only job where he works in the packaging department. I love working with him but it's a dead end job with low pay and it's not something for a young man to devote himself to. He has expressed an interest in studying and maybe going to a trade school. Another colleague of ours helped with finding good options for him to get an associate degree. The ones he suggested were two year programs in logistics or purchasing, both fine options since my son is not good with maths.

The problem is that my son is incredibly indecisive, passive and low key. When I discuss school with him the excuses start to come. I just want to light a fire under his @ss and get him going and excited about life. I know, from experience, that if he doesn't do it now, most likely he never will. He is almost 30 years old and fortunately he has no other responsibilities but himself. It won't get easier as he gets older, that's for sure.

He has some ambition but things take time for him. The problem is the applications close in 2 weeks and won't be open again for another year. This is a general issue he has had throughout his life that he never gets started. He usually expresses an interest in things, I try to help him to get the ball rolling, and then nothing really happens. Have you dealt with this as parents? How did you handle it?

  • My 2 year old will ONLY sleep if he's sleeping next to someone. How can I get him to sleep on his own without having to sleep next to someone?

Pretty much since when my son was a newborn he's always slept with me. He's now two and he will sleep through the night if he's sleeping with me or someone else but if he's by himself he'll either sleep for an hour or two and wake up or he'll wake up right away and realize that he's alone. He will NOT sleep through the night if he's sleeping by himself. I struggled with this for years now and since he's two I really want to get him out of this because I don't want to sleep with him forever.. I want us to have our own beds because I don't get a good nights sleep when he's in bed with me because he likes laying all over me.. He sleeps VERY good if he's in bed with me.. but if he's in bed by himself he wakes up multiple times a night until I give up and put him in bed with me because I'm so tired. Nothing works. The only thing I can think of is letting him cry himself to sleep but I absolutely don't want to do that because I would feel terrible knowing he's in his room crying for his mom. If I don't pick him up he'll start screaming and I know that will happen if I let him cry himself to sleep. How can I get him to sleep in his own bed when he's used to sleeping with me?

  • My MIL refers to herself as Mom to my kids?

My kids are 2 and 3. This is mainly affecting my 3 yr old. The first time she refers to herself as mom to my kids she claims it’s because she refers herself as mom to her dogs. ( all her kids are out of the house) I said I understand but plz don’t call yourself mom to my kids. It happened 3x after that for total of 4 (that I know off) her daughter and her son- my hubby both had a talk. I literally cried myself to sleep the last time. I told him that there’s has to be distance because it’s not right. She knows what she’s doing and to top it off my son is calling her mom. He says he doesn’t want distance between kids and his mom.

Just hurt because he doesn’t have my back. Does anyone else agree that some distance needs to be taking because clearly talking to her doesn’t solve the issue.

  • My son just turned two and he's barely talking.. is this normal?

My son turned two a few days ago and is still barely talking. He says "mama" and "doggie" and very simple words like that, but he's still not talking like he should be.. He recently learned the word "bye" but that's basically all he says when he talks.. Is this normal?

  • My son who turns 5 next year and will go to kindergarten, still wears diapers. How can I make him potty trained?

He turns 4 in two months and doesn’t have any disability, he’s just scared he’ll fall on the toilet.

My husband and I did whatever we can to get him off the diapers and start using the toilet like everyone else. The school district told em next year he’ll be up for kindergarten but will they still accept kids who aren’t toilet trained? If not, what can I do because I’m out of options here.

  • Son just turned 2 and he hasn't grown much. Should I be concerned?

Right now he weighs only 22 pounds and is 33 inches tall. His doctor said she wasn't too worried about his height and weight at the inception of his 1st appointment even though he wasn't on the height-weight curve for about a year. Since last month, he finally hit the curve! But before this he had been 18-19 pounds for months and only 28 inches for months as well. Even in his school classroom everyone says how cute he is and how small he is, as he is the smallest toddler there. I just feel worried that he will stay tiny. Has anyone else's toddler(s) been small and petite early on and finally 'caught up'?

  • How can I get my brother to stop doing this?

I'm 15 years old with a 7 year old special needs brother. He's blind and developmentally delayed. As he grew older, he started doing naughty things like messing with vaseline jars and climbing on things he's not supposed to climb on. He would spread any type of hair or body product all over the house. He knows how to unlock doors and he breaks any thing he touches. Also, he loves to put his mouth on things that he's not supposed to put his mouth on, like chewing chargers or eating shoes. Is there any way to get him to behave well? We're trying to hide our things in a more secure place but he always seems to find them. I don't want to hurt him in order to get him to behave because he needs me and he's counting on me. I just feel like he needs more discipline. My parents and I are running out of ideas.
