  • My son has become promiscuis?

I just found out my normally reserved 19 yr old son has recently become promiscuis (sp?). I thought we were close, but his sister, 24, shared with me that he has been getting hickies, and has a box of condoms at the ready.  (They live with their mother).  I meet with him for breakfast every week. I cannot share anything i know of course. Other than listen, is there anything i can say or do? Are there any gay men that can provide insight? Thanks in advance.

  • How much information is too much to reveal when reconnecting with an old acquaintance?

I recently found an old acquaintance in Facebook. 34 years ago, as I was passing through California on the way home to return to school, I met a woman my age in Yosemite, and for 3 days we hung out as friends...we were both solo, so it made sense. She was visiting Yosemite and California before returning home to Toronto to go to school to become a doctor. We exchanged numbers, and went about our lives. I reached out a few times that year, she never returned my calls...Fast forward 34 years, and I was going through old pictures and found her name on the back. I found her on Facebook, and reached out to her, sharing one of the pictures with her. She replied it was her and how did I remember? I explained I was going through old pictures, found her name and looked her up. I explained I see that she became a doctor like she said and to chat some time. She read it. No response. I reached out again with a few more questions. Read, no response. I then took a hint, thanked her for her time, and wished her happy holidays. Did I say too much? Did I do something wrong? Please advise.

  • Son says he is gay.?

My 15 yr old son approached my recently. He said he was sorry to disappoint me, but he is gay. He said he thought he was asexual since he had no interest in girls, and his sister asked him if he ever considered guys. He thought about it, and said he liked males more. I said ok. He said that he had no interest in girls, and really no interest in guys sexually, but only interested in being friends with guys. His female friends tend to be a bit masculine. He finds effemenit men unattractive. Feels all women and girls look the same..just like cars. He finds intimacy disgusting and repulsive between man-woman and man-man. I explained to him I love him no matter what, and it does not matter. He told his friends at school and so far has not had anything happen. I told him to focus on school. His sister is telling him he needs to start dating. I told him to go at his own pace, and not worry about it. Focus on school. Any other suggestions?

  • What should I do? Job question?

After 8 years with the same employer, my position was eliminated in May. I scrambled...applied for numerous positions, took many interviews...and landed a position doing better that I left..within 5 weeks. After being hired, I found out that there was high turnover in this position. The GlassDoor ratings are a bit low for the company. I tried to investigate, and all I can find out is that managment can be a bit querky. My manager seems cool, I have a mentor...and the job seems interesting. However, I have kept my eyes open, just in case. I now have another offer with an unknown company, and a higher GlassDoor rating.

    What should I do?

Take the new job, or hang tight in the current one?

  • Driveway questions?

    1. I live in a northern clime. My driveway is about 300' long... half gravel, half concrete. The part on the slope is all buckled, other parts have fallen, or cracked or pitted. I am not going to deal with half that is gravel.

    2. I received a few quotes for redoing the concrete part of my driveway. I received concrete quotes of $11k, and $12k, and an asphalt quote of $9550.

Question: which is better...asphalt or concrete? My wife worries about the indents we will make when we turn around in the landing area next to the garage. Can i reinforce that somehow? What about traction up the slope with asphalt?

Question: Would contractors be open to doing this in sections?...say the part closest to the house first for a third...then coming out in the spring...and doing another third...etc.

Question: What percentage of the price will I save if I chose to do my own demo...me renting a jack hammer and delivering it to a concrete recycler? Will contractors even allow me to do that? All I need is someone to do the install....

  • linkedin profile different from resume?

Question: I have recently been displaced from my employer of many years. I am qualified to do many things in my industry, but LinkedIn only allows one profile. A hiring manager recently addressed the discrepancy between the resume he received via email and the LinkedIn profile. (The only difference is in job titles). One title sounds a bit more important than the other, and the tasks can be performed in both titles for many organizations. I explained to him that the roles overlap significantly, and that I can perform either or both.

Any other ideas in case this ever comes up again?

    Please advise.

  • Misspelling in note to hiring manager?

    Scenario

I replied to a hiring manager explaining how a certain position overlapped with another one.

Unfortunately in my haste, I accidentally dropped a "p" in the word "overlapped" when I sent it.

Outside of seriously beating myself up over this...(can't believe I even did this as I never misspell words...much less send them out that way), what should I do?

    Should I:

    a. send an acknowledgement of the error and apologize, or

    b. should I just drop it?

I already have an interview scheduled with them in a few days. Should I address it then, or just drop it?

This is so embarrassing and not reflective of my work.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

  • Interivew follow up?

Here is the scenario...please advise as to what the next steps are:

I had a video interview about 3 weeks ago. I then received notification that the hiring managers would like to meet with me via phone conference. This was June 3rd. I thought it went well. They advised that they would be making a selection of the people for the next round late last week. I followed up with them on Thursday of last week for a status. They replied that a decision has not been made yet, and their manager was off until Monday. It is now Wednesday. What should I do?

Should I...Give up and figure the worst and that I was not selected...or reach out to them for a status? If so, should I do it today, or wait? Please advise.

  • Do the police contact the non-custodial parent when there is domestic violence in the custodial parents home?

I recently found out two months after the fact that there was a fair amount of domestic violence occurred in my exes home (custodial parent) with her husband. I understand from neighbors that there was a hostage situation and my children had to escape through a window. My youngest is 13.5 and my daughter is 18. I guess my daughters boyfriend was there and helped them to escape.

I want to know what is typical of most police departments. Why didn't they call me? What is the protocol? Why wasn't CPS called? These are the questions I am going ask the Lutenent (sp?) and/or Chief, but was wondering what is done else where?

My children were embarrassed I guess, and never mentioned it, and I found out only through a neighbor when I bumped into her at the store.

My exes husband is now serving 18 months to 5 years in prison. How soon could he be out for good behavior?

What can I do as a non-custodial parent to protect my children?

Any help or guidance would be most appreciated.

  • FASFA - Tax Question?

My stepdaughter lived with us until August of last year (she graduated from high school in June), and moved in with her grandmother. She entered a community college, in which she applied for and receieved FASFA support, using her grandmothers income. Now its tax time, and since we provided over half her support, I say we should claim her as a dependent. My wife disagrees claiming her as a dependent saying it will screw up her FASFA support. What is the right answer? I really want to claim her, as this amounts to like a thousand dollars. (Personally I think we should claim her, then have the kid figure it out with FASFA). Thoughts? Can/should we claim her?

  • Housing Dilemma - What to do?

Here is our dilemma. We sold our house about a month or so ago. The buyers sold their house and needed to move right away. We agreed to 15 days after closing. We quickly found another home, and agreed to 15 days after closing with the sellers. This means we will have about two weeks we have to stay in temporary quarters (friend is letting us rent their house). We just spoke with the sellers of the home we are purchasing and they are going through fits because the sellers they are buying their condo from are dragging their feet. They agreed that they would still be out by the agreed upon date. Problem is, the seller of our home is like 80, and his wife 76. I feel bad, and wish I could give them more time, but the temporary quarters we are staying in, needs to be vacated by the end of Nov (we agreed we would be out by the 15th). Anything we can do for our sellers? Seem like really nice people, and feel like we are kicking them out.

  • Ex Lets 19 yr old Boyfriend sleep over with minor child?

Question: Is this an issue for CPS? My ex is letting my 16 yr old daughters 19 yr old boyfriend sleep supposedly on the couch, every night he is not working. Supposedly he has a poor home life, but I don't care. I am a bit peeved. Is this an issue I can/should take up with CPS, or should I just drop it and accept it?

  • I need to slow down my work?

I recently received feedback that I rush too much too much in my work. We live in a society where speed seems to be praised. This is something i have struggled with most of my life and need concrete ideas of how to constructively do so. I have tried numerous strategies but still seem inclined to be "fast and efficient", even though the accuracy sometimes fall short, or understanding of what was needed falls short.

Open to any ideas...or listening to those who struggle with the same challenge.

  • What is the rule of thumb for replacing a car?

What do other people consider when determining whether to replace a car? At what point do you say the car has run its expected useful life? What is the expected useful life of a typical vehicle? When people say they will drive the car until the wheels fall off, what does that mean?

I drive 98 miles roundtrip to work every day. My current vehicle is a Nissan Altima, and has 191,000 miles on it and went in for the 3rd $800 repair this year. The first one was $800 for a wheel bearing, the second was over $1k for a catalytic converter. Prior to this, the repairs have been once a year after it was paid off, at about $800. It currently needs a new windshield (years of freeway driving has put a nice crack in it), shocks, brakes, key fobs, battery, and belt that is slipping. The rubber hoses have never been replaced, nor the fuel filter or injectors. Should I repair this and move on? How much more life do you think she has in her? Please advise. What would you do?

  • Can an Ex request reimbursement of attorney fees?

My ex has stipulated that she wants me to pay her attorney fees because she had to go to court to get the support raised. Her argument is that I blocked her number from calling me, and stopped any direct communication. She noted in the summary that I did provide her my wifes number and my email, but no direct communication.

The truth is, yes I blocked her number because she was calling me at work. However, she could contact me in the evening at my home number which was not blocked, text me during the day, call my wife, or use the kids phones. Further, she would never take my calls when I called her, unless I called one of the kids to state it was an emergency.

Lastly, the call blocking stopped Feb 7, and I notified her in writing on Feb 21. She signed a document stating the above on March 10.

Do you think I will have to pay her attorney fees?

  • L Series or IS - Which should be a higher priority?

Tell me oh gurus, which is better - L series or IS?

I currently have a Canon Rebel XT, with a Sigma 17-70 f2.8 lens. I would like to complement my system with a long focal length zoom lens, to capture those shots I dare not get closer too (bears, moose, etc).

I can afford a lens with one of the features, but not both. For reference, most of my shots will be outdoors, with and without a tripod. A trip out west next year will be the true test. I have never taken any low light action shots. My pictures are primarily nature and family. Here are my current options:

    a. Canon 70-300 f4 IS USM for about $650

    b. Canon 70-200 f4 L without IS about $560

    c. Sigma 70-200 f2.8 no mention of IS about $780

    d. Tokina 80-400 f4.5 no mention of IS about $650

Given how I am planning on using the lens, which should I go with?

Lastly, what notations for Tamron indicate a high quality lense and/or image stabilization?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
