  • Should I send official AP Score reports to the colleges I'm applying to?

    None of my guidance counselors know the answer. Last May, I had absolutely no clue what schools I'd be applying to, so I (and the rest of my class) left the report part blank. I know you can send them for $15, but do I really need to? I got a 5 on my US History and my Statistics Exam, and I wrote that in the "Testing" section of the Common App, but is it like SATs where I have to send an "official" report? No one else in my school is because my guidance counselor says it's not necessary but I'm doubting that...

  • Musical term for repeated note between melody notes? (as in Bach Partita in E Major)?

    In Bach's Preludio from the Partita in E Major, there is a pattern that runs throughout the piece that involves playing the melody notes but with another note played between all the melody notes. What is this called? It definitely has a name because I remember I read something about it in a Wikipedia article, but I can't find it anymore and it's bothering me.

  • Help me narrow down my list of colleges to apply to?

    I'd appreciate any commentary you have on any of my considered schools...

    Here's my list...I'm trying to get it down to 10, around there...

    These are the schools I'm definitely applying to just so you know what I'm kind of looking for:

    Amherst

    Bowdoin

    Brown

    Pomona

    Rochester

    Wesleyan

    Williams

    Yale

    Here's what I have to choose from:

    Dartmouth

    Franklin & Marshall

    Harvard

    Swarthmore

    Vassar

    William & Mary

  • Virus in my Gmail account?

    For the past month or 2, my emails have been sending (and placed into the Sent folder), but some recipients never actually get the emails. Today, I couldn't get onto my Gmail account because it had detected "suspicious activity" and Google had to text my password to my phone.

    When I finally got logged on, about 100 messages came up saying messages were blocked (from and to me), and there were lots of emails sent to random email addresses (some of which I knew, some of which I didn't), with a single link as the content to some site called healthworld.

  • How do I judge a school's science program?

    It's now the time for me to choose which undergraduate schools I will be applying to in December, and I'm having some trouble. I've narrowed it down to 14 based on a variety of factors, but I want to get it down to 8 using the criterion of how good the science program is (specifically physics).

    I was told to research this on the colleges' websites, but all of them look the same to me...the fact that they have physics courses means nothing about how well the courses are taught or how receptive the school is to students who wish to engage in research.

    How should I finish off my school choices?

  • Silent Spring history project?

    I have to do a final project for my US History class, involving reading a book and then doing something with the knowledge you've gained.

    I chose Rachel Carson's Silent Spring, and I was looking along the lines of planting stuff or doing something outside. Any ideas? Anything related to soil, biodiversity, etc. I just can't think of anything specific.

  • C++ variable types precision?

    I'm writing a program for C++ that finds a square root approximation. Here's the program:

    #include <cstdio>

    #include <cstdlib>

    #include <iostream>

    using namespace std;

    int main(int nNumberofArgs, char* pszArgs[])

    {

    cout << "Radicand?" << endl;

    int radicand;

    cin >> radicand;

    cout << "Guess?" << endl;

    double guess;

    cin >> guess;

    double error;

    error = radicand-(guess*guess);

    while(-.000001>error>.000001);

    { guess=(.5*(guess + radicand/guess));

    error = radicand - (guess*guess);

    }

    cout << "The square root approximation of " << radicand << " is " << guess << endl;

    cout << guess << " squared is " << guess*guess <<endl;

    system("PAUSE");

    return 0;

    }

    _____________________________

    The problem is that the answer it returns is only 5 decimal points precision. I specified that it's a double. What's up with that?

  • USB Driver problems...different ports?

    Hi, I'm plugging a Korg MIDI keyboard into my Windows XP computer with a MIDI to USB cord. At first, it worked just fine. Then, when I plugged it into a different USB port, it stopped working. The computer still recognizes that something's there, it just doesn't recognize when I'm playing things on the keyboard. I think it may have something to do with the driver reinstalling to different ports, but I'm not sure how to fix it. Any help?

  • Copyright termination for "Rhapsody in Blue"?

    I wanted to know if I could use Gershwin's composition in a movie we are making to sell. I wouldn't be using someone else's recording...just including a self-recording of the piece. I know there are composition copyrights that may prevent me from doing this, but the US Gov't Copyright website was very ambiguous about when the copyright would expire (I think today it expires 95 years after the holder's death...but the law was different back then). Any help?

  • KickYouTube problems?

    I'm trying to download the mp3 of a YouTube video using KickYouTube. I've done it many times before, but today, I can't figure out what's up. When I click "Save Link as..." the only option for saving is as a Firefox document (*.htm). I simply typed in mp3 at the end of the file name, and that seemed to work, but now when I try to add it to my iTunes library, it doesn't appear in the folder that I put it in. The properties of the downloaded file say it is a MPEG Layer 3 Audio which means *.mp3 right? The rest of my music on iTunes is MPEG-4 Audio File and I'm not sure what that is. Help?

  • Haydn Piano Trio transcription?

    Here's the link to the music for a Haydn Piano Trio:

    I'm wondering how this is to be played as a piano trio if there is only a piano part? Any help?

  • Ensemble for Violin, Violin, Cello?

    I'm looking for a score written for two violins and a cello. My quartet's violist quit, and violists are very hard to come by, so I am resorting to finding a score for just the instruments we have. I would prefer if the score was on a free online database, but if it costs, that's fine. An example I've been looking at is Vivaldi's Concerto for 2 Violins and Cello in D RV565, Op.3, No.11 (from 'L'estro armonico'). I don't know about this one because I'm unsure of how it will sound because we don't have a ripieno group like there is in the recording. Also, it should be something in the baroque or classical period. Again, it's fine if you can't find anything that meets those conditions. Thanks.

  • Weight averages in 16th century Denmark?

    I know this is kind of a random statistic, but for a school project I have to know around how much a Danish woman weighs.

    She's upper class, so I'm assuming she's a little on the heavy side.

    It doesn't even have to be Denmark, I guess...just a website with statistics of weight over the ages?

  • Researching WWII lieutenant...?

    I'm doing a project for school where we have to research a fallen hero from our hometown. I am currently missing my hero's date of birth, unit, medals/awards, and interment location. Any idea where I could find this? I am especially set on finding his unit. He was a second lieutenant in the Air Force, died in early 1944, and was killed in action over North Germany. Thank you.

  • iPod Car Charger won't work?

    A while ago I bought a car charger for my iPod online from a site that I think was called eforbuy. However, neither this charger nor the normal outlet charger that it came with worked. So, I wrote to customer support and they ended up sending me new ones. The new ones were not even the same brand or anything (I think the normal outlet one is made by Apple). The normal outlet one works fine, but the car one does not. I know the USB cord I'm using works fine, and I know power is getting to the charger because a little red light turns on. I also know that the iPod recognizes that the charger is there because it turns on when I stick the charger into the socket...help?

  • Internet Explorer problems?

    The virus known as Virus Trigger (Zlob Trojan) recently came into my computer. As far as I know, I have completely wiped it out by use of 5 different spyware removers (each used multiple times). I have also searched for any trace of the virus manually, with no findings.

    So far, everything works as normal on my computer except for Internet Explorer. Right now, I am in Safe Mode with networking...but when in normal mode, Internet Explorer opens and freezes, leaving a blank white window there saying that it is trying to connect to the home page.

    Can anyone explain why this might be happenning and how I can fix it? Maybe also explain what share mode does that differs from normal mode enough that I can use the internet in one but not the other? Thank you! :]

  • Virus Leftovers? help...?

    My computer was recently inflicted with the Virus Trigger (Zlob Trojan). I have used multiple spyware removal freewares and my problems have all been solved except that my Internet does not work. When I open internet explorer, it attempts to go to the home page, but a white screen remains while it says connecting...as that window freezes. Any help? Here is a list of what I have done to try to solve it:

    --Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (3 times)

    --Run Avast Anti-Virus (Once)

    --Run SmitFraud Fix (Twice)

    --Run Advanced System Care (Once

    --Turn off system restore and run Malwarebytes' again (by Yahoo Answers' recommendation).

    After I turned off system restore, I realized that the easiest thing to do would be to go back to a previous restore point, but turning off system restore deletes all the restore points...aaaaa! any help? please! i cant wait for this to be over.

  • Virus Trigger...help?

    The virus known as "Virus Trigger" has inflicted my computer recently. This virus pretended to be an anti-virus software, but completely down my computer to the point that I cannot use it unless I am in Safe Mode (which I am in now). When I start up my computer normally, it works normally for about a minute or two and then freezes. I have already removed the virus with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and I have scoured my hard drive to find any trace of the virus but cannot find anything. Why is my computer still not working?
